Our Approach

A relationship built around the business

The way an assignment begins often determines the quality of the work that follows. We take time to understand the owner’s concern, examine the circumstances and establish whether our involvement can be useful.

BSM® MonacoOur Approach

The relationship develops through candid discussion and work that can be examined. Ownership should understand both our recommendation and the reasoning that brought us to it.

A conversation worth having

We begin with the circumstances that led the owner to seek support. Understanding what has already been tried, who is involved and which decision cannot wait usually tells us more than a broad presentation. We also consider whether BSM is the right partner for the work.

An informed proposal

Before recommending a course of action, we establish what can reasonably be achieved with the information and resources available. The proposal describes the work, the people who will undertake it and the commercial terms, giving the owner a sound basis for deciding whether to proceed.

Close attention to the business

Once appointed, we examine the relevant evidence and speak with the people whose knowledge matters. Findings are tested against operating reality. When information is incomplete, the owner can see where judgement has been required and what would change our conclusion.

Work carried through

A responsible lead brings the necessary specialists together and keeps the assignment moving. Discussion with ownership concentrates on progress, obstacles and decisions. At the conclusion, the owner receives the work in a form that can be used, together with our recommendation on what deserves attention next.

Before we begin

A few practical points about working with BSM.

What should I share before our first conversation?

Tell us what the business does, where it operates, the decision you are considering and your intended timing. A short introduction is sufficient. Financial records, CVs and confidential project documents can follow once the purpose and arrangements for sharing them have been agreed.

Can BSM work alongside our existing management?

Yes. An advisory or owner-representation mandate can support the owner while the existing team continues to run the business. We agree who makes decisions, which information is needed and how recommendations will be followed through.

When can BSM take responsibility for operations?

An operating mandate requires a local general manager, suitable specialist support, agreed decision-making authority and a viable financial plan. The responsibilities, resources and terms must be established before BSM accepts the assignment.

How are the scope and fees agreed?

Following the initial discussion, a written proposal sets out the work, deliverables, timetable, responsibilities and fees. Additional work is agreed separately so that the owner can assess its value before committing.
